A Life Remembered

Obituary

Thomas L. Welter, 64, of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin passed away peacefully at his home on June 26, 2026, after a long battle with cancer. Tom was born in LaGrange, Illinois, on August 26, 1961, to Lillian (Schuda) Hucker, and George Welter. He grew up in the small town of Willow Springs, Illinois, where he spent his childhood exploring the woods in the forest preserve near his home.

He attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Upon graduation, there were few jobs available, so he used the knowledge he gained to be an Automotive Technician.

Devoted to his family, he would travel to work in Schamburg, Illinois from his home in Pleasant Prairie for over 25 years. He was also a guy who could fix anything. Tom was a master of improvisation.

Tom married Barbara Beyer on July 16, 1983. Together they had two amazing children, Amy (Kevin) Hansen and Michael. The family moved several times before settling down in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin in 1987.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish, snowmobile and hike. He and Barb were constantly seeking outdoor adventures. The two did everything together.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife Barb; children, Amy (Kevin) Hansen, and Michael Welter; granddaughters, Anna Hansen and Molly Hansen; and brothers Steve (Lorrie) Welter and David (Stacey) Welter. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lillian (Schuda) Hucker and George Welter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Wisconsin Ducks Unlimited or City of Hope’s Walk for Hope in support of cancer research. To make a gift in Tom’s memory, please visit the Walk for Hope Tom Welter Tribute Page. Please click 'In Lieu of Flowers' at the top of the page to be directed to Tom's page.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 7:00 p.m. at Proko Funeral Home.
