Sandra Sue Kohlmeier’s earthly journey ended Thursday, August 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with bone marrow cancer.
Sandy was born in Kenosha on November 28, 1941, to John Sr. and Frances (Chalecki) Karaway. She was educated in Kenosha schools and graduated from Bradford High School. She attended UW Madison, where she met Kenneth J. Kohlmeier, who would become her husband.
Sandy and Ken married at St. Mark’s Catholic Church on May 9, 1964. Together they raised three children, Kevin James Kohlmeier who was born on January 4, 1967, and passed away on April 4, 2021; Keith John Kohlmeier born June 6, 1970; and Kristen Joy Kohlmeier born July 23, 1973.
Sandy worked as a receptionist for Dr. Frederick Wood for about 10 years until he retired and then worked for Dr. Richard Borman until her retirement in 2010.
Sandy and Ken loved traveling and camping throughout the United States with their kids and later in life with brother Thom and Ginger Karaway. Sandy enjoyed endless chats with brother John Karaway and brother Ron Karaway.
After retirement, Sandy continued to enjoy her family, her granddogs, garden and the birds in their yard. She volunteered on the St. Mary grounds making the gardens beautiful.
She is survived by her husband, Ken, her son Keith and grandchildren Josh and Gia, her daughter Kirsten and grandson Jake Keane, her brother Ron and Judy Karaway, brother Thom and Ginger Karaway, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Kevin, and brother John.
Sandy will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

A memorial gathering will be held from 11:00 – 11:45 A.M. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 7307 40th Ave, Kenosha. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 noon.
