A Life Remembered
Obituary
Linda Ruth Selsberg, née Loeb, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, died peacefully at home on June 16, 2026, with her sons at her side, after several years with cancer. She fought the disease with the same quiet optimism and strength that defined her life.
Linda was born on September 18, 1944, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Helene (Berdie) and Jacob Harvey Loeb. She was proud of her deep Wisconsin roots—her great-grandfather Philip Berdie was a Union soldier in the Civil War.
She attended Whitefish Bay High School and graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she met her husband of 57 years, Richard “Dick” Selsberg. After living in Mississippi and West Germany while he served in the Air Force, they moved to Kenosha in 1970. Their relationship was thick with community service and a sharp sense of humor, as typified by anniversary dinners in a tent behind Cohorama, a beloved Kenosha fishing contest and fundraiser that was long a fixture of their lives.
Her work included elementary school teacher and volunteer coordinator, and for years she worked at Kemper Center. A lot of her energy went into creating a home and raising two boys—always happy to chaperone or contribute to a bake sale. She was an active and longtime member of Beth Hillel Temple, and a regular volunteer with the Jewish Community Foundation and at the Shalom Center.
An ace at crossword puzzles and the Jumble, Linda liked the harbor, art fairs, book clubs, and browsing gift shops and antique stores; Coopers Uptown (formerly Andrea’s) was a favorite. She even appeared on Antiques Roadshow in 1999. Later in life, Linda enjoyed playing Mahjong and canasta, gathering with friends at Anna’s on the Lake. She was deeply embedded in a sisterhood. She loved long, late-night phone calls with women she’d known her whole life: aunts, cousins, her sister Sukie, and an array of relatives and friends. She was not only good company, but for many she provided a stable and encouraging presence during hard times.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, in 2022. At the end of his life, she was his stalwart caregiver. In her own final years, she was grateful for an excellent care team led by Simone Mos.
Linda is survived by her sister Susan Curnett, her sons Daniel (Karen) Selsberg, Andrew (Elizabeth Grinspan) Selsberg, and grandchildren Sammy, Asher, Aitan, Joey, and Abe.
She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 19th at Beth Hillel Temple, Kenosha, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in B’nai Zedek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Linda's memory may be made to Beth Hillel Temple or the Shalom Center.
