George J. Wronowski

1952 ∼ 2026

George J. Wronowski

George J. Wronowski, 73, of Sturtevant, WI, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, with his wife by his side.

Born December 18, 1952, in Chicago, IL, George was the son of the late John and Anne (Malek) Wronowski. He grew up in Chicago and later moved to DuPage County, IL, where he attended school and began building a life rooted in family and hard work.

On September 21, 2013, George married Mary Schroeder in Lake Geneva, WI. Their union was filled with adventure, laughter, and shared passions.

George was an avid hunter and fisherman, often found in the woods of Galena, IL, Conover, WI, and northern Minnesota. He loved the Northwoods deeply, and in 2016, after retiring from Automechanics Local 701, he and Mary moved to Minnesota to help run Vermilion Dam Lodge—a business he co-founded with Ed Tausk. The eight years they spent there were filled with joy, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories. In 2024, they returned to Wisconsin.

George passed down his love of fishing to his children and grandchildren, taking them on trips to Canada, Lake George in Bristol, WI, and Lake Vermilion in MN. He especially cherished duck hunting with his loyal Labrador retrievers. George also had a passion for classic cars and proudly participated in Windy City Corvette car shows, supporting the Illinois Spina Bifida Association. He loved entertaining family and friends—hosting cookouts, boating on the lake, and “playing Santa” for his grandchildren during the holidays. In their “house divided,” George proudly stood by the Bears while Mary rooted for the Packers, and he never hid his frustration when the Pack was winning—and Mary still cheered on the Bears as well.

George is survived by his wife, Mary; her daughter, Andra (Aaron) Womack of Sturtevant WI; his daughters, Jennifer (Randy) VanHoegarden of Westmont, IL, and Christine (Cuyler) Cunningham of Middleton, WI; his sister, Carol Baltzer of Downers Grove, IL; his nephew, John Baltzer; and grandchildren Olivia, Nathan, Jack, Warren, Whitney, and AJ.

A celebration of George’s life will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at Bristol Oaks Golf Club, 16801 75th St, Bristol, WI 53104. Please rsvp using this link: https://evite.me/rqbJ6PHSxg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in George’s honor.

My deepest sympathy to the family of George Wronowski. So sad to hear of his passing. I knew George for so many years at Bill Kay Chevrolet he was a Jedi master of Corvette repairs and we all knew him well. I always looked forward to seeing him at the dealer as well as at car shows in town. He was one of my fellow Corvette Judges at Bloomington Gold. Rest in peace George we will all miss you greatly.
