Herbert “Herbie” Frese, 96, of Kenosha, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Grand Prairie Health Care Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Kenosha on November 4, 1919, the son of the late Ferdinand and Natalie (Weiss) Frese. He attended Friedens Evangelical Lutheran School. Herbie began working in the family grocery store with his brothers and sisters and later took over the Frese Market in the 1940’s and ran it until his retirement in the 1970’s. Herbie also served in the Army during WWII being stationed in Italy. After he was discharged from the Army he married Hattie Schefky at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church on November 23, 1950. He enjoyed collecting and accumulating treasures from auctions and garage sales, playing board games with his grandchildren and telling stories of old Kenosha. Surviving Herbie are his wife, Hattie; three children, Julie Frese (James Teslow), John Herbert (Cindy) Frese and Janet Frese; three grandchildren; two brothers, Reinold and Paul Frese; and also by many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.
