Sandra Kay Mecozzi (Sandi), nee Benton and formerly Siebert, resident of Kenosha, Wisconsin died on May 25, 2016, at the age of 64. Sandi was born September 22, 1951, to Johnny E. Benton and Evelyn P. Benton (nee Pennington) in Columbus, Mississippi. She moved to Wisconsin with her family in the 1960s. She attended Lance Junior High School and graduated from Tremper High School in 1969. She married Arthur Frederick (Rick) Siebert Jr. shortly after graduating high school and had a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, in October 1970. She divorced in 1974. Sandi loved south east Wisconsin and spent her adult life in Racine and Kenosha. In her twenties and thirties, she played softball, darts, and spent a lot of time with her friends, Sandy Mason, Mark Schall, and many others. She worked for Johnson Wax until the accident which left her a quadriplegic during September 1996. After the accident, she returned home to live with her mom, Evelyn Benton AKA Grandma Evie. Sandi was an avid reader, gardener, shopper, and painter. She loved to play radio trivia with her aides and find interesting recipes to challenge them. She was an artist from her early 20s and liked to paint with acrylics and water colors. After her accident she continued to paint with the assistance of Shannon Stokes and, most recently, Kim Langston. They produced numerous paintings of lighthouses and local birds. In spite of being a quadriplegic, Sandi was involved with local charities like the Kenosha Aging and Disability Resource Center and Easter Seals of Wisconsin. She also continued to travel and a favorite destination was Las Vegas. She always had a lively sense of humor and wasn't afraid to laugh at herself or her situation. Sandi is survived by her daughter, MaryBeth (Jason Gyulay), her nieces, Rebekah (Chip Sanders), Janet (Shawn Sullivan), and Laura (Michael Froh) and her nieces' families. She was predeceased by her mother, Evelyn Benton (2013), father, Johnny Benton (1981), and brother, Jeff (1995). She is also predeceased by her beloved pets, Charlie, Wheezer, Bitsy, Chance, Corky, Virgil, and Fluffy. Sandi requested that memorial donations be made to Kenosha Aging and Disability Resource Center at 8600 Sheridan Road Suite 500 Kenosha WI 53143. Sandi was a lifelong agnostic and will be buried with her parents in Fulton Mississippi. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, June 5th, at 1:00 p.m. at 6337-51st Avenue, Kenosha, Wisconsin to celebrate her life.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Sandi's Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
