David Leon Gapen
David L. “Speedy” Gapen, 48, of Kenosha, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus. Born El Paso, TX, on May 22, 1967, he was the son of Leon and Lorane (Landes) Gapen. He moved to Waukegan, IL, in 1978 and in 1992 made Kenosha his home. He was employed as Operations Manager with American Gasses in Gurnee, IL, for the last 25 years. Speedy loved riding his Harley, listening to music, going to concerts and was a member of the Queensryche Fan Club. He also loved sports, rooting for the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. He will be remembered for his love to cook, grill and anything to do with bacon. Survivors include his daughter, Rhea (Brad) Burks of Kenosha; his mother, Lorane Seymour of Aurora, IL; his fiancée, Christina Young of Beach Park, IL; four siblings, Christopher (Brandee) Gapen of Spokane, WA, Dan Gapen of Kenosha, Aaron (Morgan) Gapen of Kenosha and Melanie Monnie of Baudette, MN; his step mother, Mary (Bob) Miller of Kenosha; maternal grandmother, Anna “Nonna” Mosena of Aurora, IL; and his three loving grandchildren, Evan White, Elijah Burks and Emmett Burks. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Gapen.
