Helen B. Voelz, 103, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Brookdale Senior Living. Helen was born in Madison, WI, on March 3, 1913, to Martin and Dorothy Wallestad. She moved with her family to Kenosha when she was 2 years old and was educated in local schools. On August 18, 1932, she married Eldon Voelz and had two children, Ronald and Marilyn. She worked as a telephone operator for Kenosha Telephone Company for many years and was also a manager of Hermosa Hosiery Shop during WWII. Later, she went to work for the American Brass, from which she retired. After retirement, she served as a volunteer at the Kenosha Hospital for a number of years. Helen enjoyed knitting, crocheting, painting, growing African violets, and feeding the birds. Through the years she had three pet poodles that were very dear to her, Tami 1, Tami 2 and Tami 3. Surviving are her daughter, Marilyn Heaton of Olympia, WA; six grandchildren, Sandy Jahns of Pleasant Prairie, Dennis (Nancy) Voelz of Kenosha, Daniel (Gay) Voelz of Kenosha, Jeff (Denise) Voelz of Racine, Lisa (husband, Steven Thomson) Heaton of Olympia, WA, and Wade Heaton of Tallahassee, FL; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Voelz; son, Ronald Voelz; grandson, Todd Heaton; and siblings, John Wallestad, Arthur Wallestad, Harold Wallestad and Alice Engstrom. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 25th, at Trinity Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
