Arlene Margaret (Heinz) Merten, 86, of Kenosha, WI, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care Center in Racine, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Kenosha, WI, on February 18, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Louis J. and Carolyne (Fuhrer) Heinz. She graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School. On May 29, 1949, she married James J. Merten at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kenosha. She completed two years of secretarial, business and medical classes at Kenosha Technical College. Throughout her career, she was employed at Jockey International, Sewing; Kenosha County Court House, Abstract Department; Snap-on Tools, Head Order and Billing; Kenosha Memorial Hospital, Admitting; and Dr. Morris Segal, Medical Secretary, from where she retired. Arlene was a lifelong Member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Mother’s Association. She belonged to the PTA at Lincoln Elementary School and served as the Secretary-Treasurer for several years. Arlene enjoyed dancing, reading, watching news programs, Jeopardy, Wheel Of Fortune, playing Bingo, cards, scrabble and camping and traveling throughout the United States. Arlene loved to spend time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and attending family parties and gatherings. Surviving Arlene are her five children, Faye Lubniewski (Gerald Paterson, fiancée) of West Allis, WI, Lynn (Larry) Nolen of San Diego, CA, Joy (Richard) Trapp of Racine, WI, Mark J. (Melissa) Merten of Bakersfield, CA, and Michael J. Merten of Hollywood, CA; eight grandchildren, Ben Nolen, Anne Lubniewski (Johnathan McCray), Andrea Nolen (R.J. Richardson), Craig Nolen, Tyler Trapp, Michelle Merten, Joy Trapp and Mark Merten, Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Serena Lubniewski Estrada and twins, Jared and Aria McCray; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Merten of Hot Springs, AK, Sister Mary Joyce Merten, SSND of Burlington, Carol Merten of Burlington, WI, Betty Gaiser of Bedford, IN, Joyce Clason of Lacrosse, WI, and Loretta Merten of Fennimore, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James J. Merten; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul, Geraldine, John, Roger, Edgar F., Ralph Clason and Gary Gaiser. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 29th, at the Proko Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Family and friends are asked to meet at the Proko Funeral Home on Saturday, April 30th, at 12:15 p.m. for prayers.
