Gilda Sorrentino, 92, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2016, at Brookside Care Center with her loving family by her side. She was born in Marano Principato, Providence of Cosenza, Italy, on May 7, 1923, the daughter of the late Joseph and Virginia Ziccarelli. She was educated in Italy, and later married Pietro Sorrentino on October 13, 1940, in Italy. He preceded her in death on August 9, 1950. Gilda moved to Kenosha in 1972 with her family and began working at her brother’s restaurant “Luigi’s” as a cook. She loved gardening, housekeeping, cooking and spending time with family. She was a kind and generous woman who always offered kind words of encouragement to family and friends. Surviving Gilda are her children, Mario (Iolanda) Sorrentino of Kenosha, Maria (Ottavio) Nigro of Italy and Luigi (Anna) Sorrentino of Italy; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and her sister, Lidia Barbieri of Italy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pietro; and two brothers, Silvio and Luigi Ziccarelli. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 23rd, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. followed by entombment at All Saints Mausoleum. Family and friends are asked to meet at the Proko Funeral Home on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. for prayers.
