Sally Ann Garrigan
Sally Ann (Shaw) Garrigan, 74, of Kenosha, WI, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus. Sally was born in Boston, MA, on March 4, 1941, the daughter of the late Robert and Arline Shaw. Sally made friends in all the places she lived across the United States, including Boston, MA; Rapid City and Pierre, SD; Portland, OR; and most recently Kenosha. She was an avid reader, quilter and crafter who enjoyed socializing through book clubs, quilt guilds and knitting groups. Sally loved to travel and had adventures coast-to-coast as well as across the seas. Sally was a very compassionate person, always ready to serve and care for others. After a committed career as a medical social worker in a busy emergency department, she retired from Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, OR, and in 2007 moved to Kenosha to be closer to her family. Family and friends were always at the center of Sally’s life. She was known as Grammy Bear to her four granddaughters, who were her pride and joy. She looked forward to socializing each night with her fireplace gang at St. Catherine Commons who proved to be true friends and a great support system. Sally became a sister or mother to those who lost or needed family. She stayed in close touch with family and friends from around the country by phone and e-mail. As a quilter, Sally’s life became a multicolored patchwork stitched from all her homes, travels, and the hearts and love of all who knew her. Sally will be deeply missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Dana and Amy Garrigan; daughter-in-law, MaryBeth Garrigan; and four granddaughters, Rebecca, Rowan, Lucinda and Katherine Garrigan. She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Garrigan. A memorial service for Sally will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church, 2001 80th Street, Kenosha, WI 53143. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to one of Sally’s two favorite institutions, the local library or National Public Radio (http://www.npr.org/stations/donate/index.php), would be appreciated.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Sally's Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
