Joyce M. Barca, 85, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Hospice Alliance House surrounded by all of her children, grandchildren, sister and special family members whom she deeply loved. Born in Kenosha on May 19, 1930, she was the daughter of the late William and Alfreda (Ellefson) Ashmus. A lifelong citizen of Kenosha, she attended Friedan’s Evangelical Lutheran School and Mary D. Bradford High School. On January 31, 1954, she was united in marriage to Peter Barca. He preceded her in death on August 7, 1993. Joyce was a co/owner of Midwest Equipment, Barca Belting and the Flamingo Restaurant, and had been employed by Nash Motors. Joyce was a member of the Italian American Ladies Auxiliary, Kenosha Senior Action Council, Meadowbrook County Club in Racine, and belonged to various women’s and card clubs. Joyce was the perfect name because everyone thinks of her with joy, laughter, and love. She was the joy of our life and the center of our universe. She was one of a kind, a true original, and once you met her, you would never forget her. Her grandchildren considered her a card shark and valued her weekly family dinners. She had a passion for the stock market, politics, and for bringing family and friends together. Surviving are her children, Representative Peter (Kathleen) Barca and Elizabeth (Michael) Schrandt, both of Kenosha; a step daughter, Bonnie Barca Friday of Racine; a sister, Michaelyn (Donn) Beck of Twin Lakes; sister-in-law, Rosie Ashmus of Kenosha; grandchildren, Katelyn (Louie) Martin, Erin Schrandt, Abrianna Barca and Peter Joseph Barca; step grandchild, Sarah Friday (Jon Frederickson) and their children Alexander and Ashlyn; special niece, Kimm Peters; and nephew Matt (Nicole) Beck. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Eugene (Shirley) Ashmus; and a step son-in-law, James Friday. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 7th, at Proko Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., with funeral services to follow. Interment will be private on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice Alliance would be appreciated by the family.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Joyce's Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com

My condolences to the Barca family. I've known Joyce from the time I was a young girl playing in the neighborhood with Betsy and other friends. She was always very kind and sweet. My heart goes out to Betsy, Peter and their families. God Bless.

My condolences to the Barca family--I treasured working with Joyce when I helped her with Peter's campaigns. She was tough, but loveable and quick to laugh. Joyce was very protective of her family and she will be missed.

I had the pleasure to meet Joyce for the first time when she was at Brookside earlier in the year. I can see why the obituary in Kenosha News said she was a joy and full of laughter and love. She certainly gave me that first impression.I am truly sadden to hear of her passing and extend my condolences to her family and close friends.
