Alton “Ray” Free, 65, of Twin Lakes, WI, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2014, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee. Born on February 6, 1949, in Moro, AR, he was the son of the late Bonard and VanLoye (Lentz) Free. He came to Kenosha as a child and was educated in local schools, graduating from Tremper High School. He later went back to school receiving an associate’s degree in material management from Gateway Technical College. On February 28, 1972, he entered the United States Army. He was honorably discharged after serving two terms on November 20, 1978. On June 20, 1970, he married JuneRae Wohlgefahrt in Kenosha. Ray was formerly employed with American Motors Corporation until he retired due to military disability. He was a member of the American Legion David Leet Post 552 in Somers, enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, and was a Minnesota Viking fan. Most of all, he enjoyed just being with his family. Survivors include his wife, JuneRae Free of Twin Lakes; three children, Darlene (Tim) Hughes, Diane (Rob Young) Free and Derek (Heather) Free; twelve grandchildren, Alton Free, Crystal Free, Charlet Hughes, Alan Hughes, Katelynn Hughes, Shyan Hughes, Robert Hughes, Devan Free, DakotaRay Free, Robby Young, Clayton Free and Jadon Free; three great-grandchildren, Joseph Free, Alijah Daniel and Abrianna Honebein; two brothers, Clyde “Dillard” (Shirley) Free and Lelion Free; a sister, Virginia (Robert) Clark; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Martin, Doyle, Willard and David; and two sisters, Elsie Dilks and Mary Garza. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 16th, at the Proko Funeral Home at 12:00 noon. Interment will be at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI.
