William Aikens
William “Bill” Aikens, 88, of Kenosha, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at his home. Born in Sioux Falls, SD, on April 13, 1926, he was the son of the late George and Marguerite (Arnold) Aikens. Bill moved to Kenosha as a young child and was educated in local schools. He entered the U.S. Army and served on the German front during World War II as a halftrack gunner and was honorably discharged. Then he joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge. On October 3, 1953, he married Marian Lupia at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2011. He was employed as a motor mechanic for over 35 years with Johnson Outboard in Waukegan. He also worked part time at Guttormsen Bowling Alley for many years and was very involved with the Kenosha Band Boosters. Bill was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and was on the speaker’s bureau for the Honor Flight program. Bowling was a big part of his life but he also enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, jigsaw puzzles and playing cribbage. Survivors include his two children, Lynn Dahl of Kenosha and Tim (Jenny) Aikens of Pleasant Prairie; four grandchildren, David (Roni) Dahl, and Tommy (fiancée McKenna Mount), Katie and Liam Aikens; a brother, Don (Pat) Aikens of Topsham, ME; and two sisters, Florence Anderson of Kenosha and Dorcas Allan of Sarasota, FL. He was preceded in death by a son, David Aikens; and a brother, Arnold “Kelly” Aikens.
