Roberto M Delgadillo, born March 27, 1948, in Weslaco, TX. Passed away May 2, 2014, in San Antonio, TX, after a long struggle with cancer. The eldest of 10 children, he worked as a migrant laborer until 1972 when he settled out in Northern Illinois and began work as a machinist. He later moved to Kenosha where he resided for over 30 years. He was most recently employed at Frank L Wells Co. He also had a business in Kenosha – Hawkeye Painting and Janitorial. During his life, Roberto usually held at least two jobs – but he still made time for friends and family. He also made time to volunteer as a disc jockey on and off since 1967, most recently as the Texas Tornado at La Campeona in Racine, WI. Roberto lived his life in service to others. A 32nd degree brother of the Scottish Rite Masonic Lodge in downtown Kenosha, Roberto also served on Civic Citizens Fourth of July Parade Committee for 10 years. He co-founded and organized an annual event to celebrate Mexican Independence day free to the community. He formed HELP (Hispanics Easing Laden People) in 1984. He was named to the “Sesquicentennial committee” to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Kenosha. The most notable achievement was the construction of the acoustical band-shell at the lakefront in Kenosha funded 100% from private donations. He was a board member of the Spanish Center of Racine and Kenosha, and served as president for two years. Roberto became a board member of UMOS in 1988, and served on the executive board in various capacities. He often gave the invocation at UMOS events as “Father Bob”, until ill health prevented him from serving. He was made an honorary life-time board member in 2013. During this time he also volunteered at Mexican Fiesta, sometimes managing several stages at once, and meeting many well-known performers. He also served on board of directors for La Causa in Milwaukee. He married Linda and had three children – Angelica (Sudduth) of Newnan GA, Roberto Jr. of Rockford IL, and Carlos of Chicago IL. He later married Mary Lou and had another child, Delia (Baker) of Indianapolis IN. Roberto leaves behind his children and four grandchildren: Evann and Elijah Sudduth, Angelica Muldowny of Rockford, Johauna Baker of Indianapolis. In 1989 he met Cynthia Wesselius, and in 2003 they married in Kenosha. Though divorced, they remained inseparable throughout the remainder of his life. He had two step-children through this marriage, Jessica (Potts) and Daniel Smith. He treated them as his own, and formed a special bond with Jessica that lasted until her death 3 ½ months before his. He was also Grampa to Jessica’s children Nevis Potts and Tyler Smith-Powers. He had many dear friends including: Nedda Lopez of Milwaukee, his best buddy and partner in crime at UMOS and La Causa; UMOS Board members Juan Jose Lopez of Madison WI and CEO Lupe Martinez of Milwaukee WI. Roberto had several brothers and sisters in Texas: Ruth (Armando) Cortez, Gloria Ramirez, America Ramirez – all of San Antonio, Samuel Ramirez of Austin, and David Ramirez of Mexico. Many Cousins, Nieces and Nephews who will miss him greatly. He was preceded in death by a brother Mario, and his mother Amalia.
