Alfred D. “Fred-Fritz” Buttera Sr., of Kenosha, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at Hospitality Nursing and Rehabilitation. Fred was born on October 20, 1930, in Waukegan, IL, the son of the late Madeline (Steve) Benuska and the late Frank Buttera. Fred attended local schools and served in United Stated Army from 1948 to 1952. He met Marylou Saxton when he was stationed in Omaha, NE, in 1948; they were married on November 29, 1949. He worked for many years as a machine operator for American Motors, Famco Products, Benco, and Racine Railroad Products. Fred also owned and operated “Fred’s In and Out” Service station in Racine, WI, and later retired from Des Automotive. Fred enjoyed cooking, playing pool, traveling, camping, spending time with his sister Rose, and having long phone conversations with his sister Arlene. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and many grandchildren. Fred is survived by his children, Nick (Donna) Buttera of Minnesota, Madeline (Leroy) Girard of Kenosha, Francine Greer of Milwaukee, Marylou Nolan of Kenosha, Alfred Jr. (Kathy) Buttera of Arizona, Betsy (Vincent Sr.) Perez of Pleasant Prairie, Frank Buttera Sr. of Kentucky, Brian Buttera Sr. of Kenosha and Pam (Mike) Buttera-Metheny of Iowa. He was also survived by forty-two grandchildren, Nick, Karena, Marc, Dawn, Paul, Anthony, Craig, Gregg, Sherita, Felicia, David, Eugene, Shavonnah, Tanji, AJ, Leroy, Kim, Jeff, Erica, Amy, Robert, Tim, Nicole, Michelle, Danyelle, Amanda, Melissa, Crystal, Mary, Ashley, Amber, Frank Jr, Brittney, Keith, Kenny, Brandon, Rebecca, Randi, Jacqueline, Anna, Troy and Cory; seventy-six great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Rose Sturino of Kenosha and Arlene Shiotani of California. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, four of whom are very special to him John, Jerry, Maryellen and Judy. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his ex-wife, Marylou Buttera; an infant daughter, Sarah; daughter, Florence; son-in-law, Daniel Hilliard; brother, Nicolas “Bud” Buttera; and three grandchildren, Daniel, Mary and Brian Jr. The family would like to thank the medical staff at Hospitality Nursing and Rehabilitation and special friends who helped care for their father.
