Eric O. Nelson, Jr.

Eric O. Nelson, Jr., 79, of Pleasant Prairie, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2013, at Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie with his family at his side. Born in Kenosha on March 13, 1934, he was the son of the late Eric O. and Elizabeth (Christensen) Nelson, Sr. He attended the schools of Kenosha. He was employed by Nash Motor Co. from February of 1952 until November of 1954. He became a Plumber Apprentice in September of 1954, for the Charles S. Prizer Co., leaving there is November of 1954. He worked for various other contactors until 1989. Eric spent over 50 years in the plumbing industry in various capacities. He also was an Instructor in Local 93’s Apprenticeship Program for ten years. In 1989 he became the Plumbing Inspector for Gurnee, IL, until his retirement in 1997. He also was Plumbing Inspector for Lake Bluff, IL, from 1963 to 1967. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Eric was a lifelong antique automobile hobbyist and collector, being very partial to the Nash. He collected a number of them. He enjoyed traveling and his various auto club activities. He had many hobbies, among them working on his cars, woodworking, postcard, coin collecting and genealogy. He is survived by his six children, Craig Nelson, Kevin (Linda) Nelson, Lori Ann (Jerry) Benson, Eric O. Nelson III, Tammie (Greg) Rach, and Crystal Longo; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edna Sormula. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 9th, at Proko Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, December 10th, at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
