Valdemar H. ”Pete” Petersen, III, 88, formerly of Kenosha, late of Crossville, TN, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville, TN. Born in Kenosha on April 3, 1925, he was the son of the late Valdemar and Ebba (Hansen) Petersen, Jr. He was educated in the schools of Kenosha, moving to Tennessee in 1998. On April 10, 1942, he entered the United States Navy serving during World War II until his honorable discharge on April 10, 1946. He received the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal with 3 stars, Good Conduct Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. On June 12, 1948, he married Martha Kolbach at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church in Kenosha. She preceded him in death on March 16, 1998. He was employed as a chef at the Dayton Hotel Restaurant and for 33 years at Ray Radigan’s until his retirement on June 1, 1985. Pete was a former member of St. Mary’s Lutheran Church in Kenosha and a current member of Christ Lutheran Church in Fairfield, TN. He enjoyed wood carving, making wooden model boats, canes and music boxes. Surviving are his three daughters, Linda (Richard) Queen and Sherry Gregory, both of Crossville, TN, and Karen (Michael) Metallo of Kenosha; a brother, Larry Petersen of Nevada; a sister, Ellen Mekulich of Tigard, OR; four grandchildren, Christopher Queen, Aaron Queen, Nicole Beatingo and Douglas Queen; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and other extended family. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dogan “Wayne” Gregory; and a granddaughter, Brenda Morrison. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 26th, at Proko Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. with full military honors following. Interment will be private.
