Rev. Orin James Striegler

1948 ∼ 2013

Orin James Striegler, 64, of Kenosha, was ushered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, on October 28, 1948, the son of the late Eileen (McCunney) and Frank Striegler of Wayne, PA. He was educated in the Philadelphia area and was proud to serve our country in the United States Naval Reserves. In 1969 he joined Blue Cloud Abbey in Marvin, SD, in a search for truth. He found it while reading the Scriptures in Ephesians 2:8 and 9: ‘For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift or God, not of works lest any man should boast.’ He left the monastery in 1971 and moved to Sioux Falls, SD. He acknowledged his need of a Savior and invited Jesus to come into his life. Experiencing a life change from hopelessness to hope in Christ, his passion to introduce others to the Lord became foremost in his life. He married Kathleen Larson in Sioux Falls, SD, on June 3, 1978. He graduated from Sioux Falls University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education in 1980. He greatly enjoyed an exceptional career in the sales profession, winning the Dale Carnegie Sales Course Championship in 1982 in Sioux Falls, SD. He was the top salesman in the South Dakota/North Dakota/Kansas/Nebraska region for Culligan Water Systems during their 50th anniversary sales contest. He made a commitment to full time ministry when faced with critical heart problems in 1990. He received his Master of Divinity degree in 1995 from North American Baptist Seminary. While a student he pastored the First Congregational Church in Humboldt. He later served Grace Church in Sioux Falls, First Baptist Church in Minot, ND, and currently was serving at Immanuel Baptist Church in Kenosha. He was honored by the North American Baptist Seminary in 2001 with the ‘Signature Award,’ for his commitment to personal spiritual development, integrity, faithfulness and obedience to God’s Word. His passion for ministry also involved Mission trips to San Carlos, Mexico; Orchid Island, Taiwan; and Bataar, Mongolia. He was nominated for the 1992 Governor’s Volunteer of the Year Award in South Dakota. He has been a volunteer at the United Hospital Systems, Kenosha, as a volunteer chaplain the past several years and formerly at the Civil War Museum, also of Kenosha. His other interests include history, travel, music, reading, walking, developing and maintaining personal relationships. James is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Kenosha, sisters-in-law, Mary Bender (Dave) and Virginia Larson, foster mother, Kelly Travers of Mission, TX, as well as extended family and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Sharon Striegler, Upper Darby, PA, a brother Joseph Striegler, Portland, Oregon and sister-in-law, Angeline Green, Baton Rouge, LA. Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church on Sunday, July 28th, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dave Dryer officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, July 27th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Interment will be held on Wednesday, July 31st, at Rothsay Baptist Church Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Pastor Jim’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com

Dear Kathy,How can a person have two emotions at once? We are saddened by the news of Pastor Jim's passing but at the same time thankful that he is with the Lord. Our hearts are heavy with grief for you as you grieve the passing of your sweet husband. Pastor Jim had a very special place in our hearts. His passion for those that needed to hear the Gospel Message of Salvation was so inspirational. His sense of humor and his laugh was so much fun! What a great listener he was too! We are grateful that we got to know Pastor Jim while we lived in Minot. His heavenly "home going" is beyond what our minds can even imagine! We love you and want to let you know that this message brings with it tears and a big hug! Love, Tim and Stacey Mendro

Dear Kathy, We are saddened to hear of Jim's passing at such a young age, even though we know he is supremely happy to be with the Savior he loved and served so well. We have such fond memories of both of you from the years you served in Minot. We were always so impressed with his ability to remember names, prayer requests, and details of conversations. He never failed to follow up a prayer request to see how things were going. Reading his obituary made me realize even more what an extraordinary man he was. I know he will be missed by so many people, but none more than you. I will be praying for you in the days, weeks, and months ahead as you adjust to this life without your partner. I pray you will be surrounded with loved ones...both friends and family, in the days ahead, and that they will bring you comfort. May the Great Comforter wrap you in His love and may you know the peace that only He can give during this time of mourning your husband and celebrating his life and the knowledge that you will indeed see him again. Much love, Al and Darlene Picconatto

In the short time that I had the pleasure of knowing Pastor Striegler (Jim) I had come to love him not only as a brother in Christ but also one who brought with him a contagious smile. One who, when conversing brought joy to me and my family. I thank my God we will have our reunion in paradise. Lord bless you Jim.

Kathy, He fought the good fight, and kept the faith, Jesus called him friend. I’m deeply sorrowed that God brought him to his eternal home so soon, though he will forever remain a blessing for those who held him dear. I look forward to the day when we will rejoice with him again. There will always be a place of remembrance at our Christmas table for Pastor Jim. We love, and miss him so. Our love and prayers are with you.

While are hearts are saddened from a human perspective we rejoice in that Pastor Jim is now with the Lord-whom he loved and served so well. We have some amazingly memories of him and are so grateful for what he meant in the life of our oldest son, Stephen, to whom he was always a good friend and confidant. Our prayers are with Kathy and the rest of the family that they know the peace which only comes from the Lord. Blessings to you all.
