Cesare Scarlato, 92, formerly of Kenosha, late of Sacramento, CA, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at his residence at Mercy McMahon Terrace. He was born in Italy on July 23, 1920, in Marano Principato, Calabria to Serafino and Carolina (Bruno) Scarlato. He served in the Italian army during World War II and was a prisoner of war for five years. On August 29, 1953, he married Frances Savaglio. They had four children: Mary, Gregory, Richard, and Gerard. He and Frances had a wonderful marriage. Cesare worked as a janitor at Brookside Nursing Home in Kenosha for over 25 years. He had a miraculous green thumb and loved gardening. While in Kenosha he was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, the Men’s Garden Club and the Italian American Society. He will always be remembered for his wisdom and kind and gentle spirit. He is survived by two sisters, Iolanda Filippelli and Ida Molinaro, his four children, three daughters-in-law, Annette, Lila, and Lynn, and five grandchildren, Mya, Andre, Adrienne, Sam, and Amelia. Cesare was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, several step-brothers, his sister Rose Ruffolo, and his grandson, Keenan Scarlato. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 26th, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum.
