John, 84, passed away on July 17, 2013, following a short illness. In his family home of nearly seventy years with his family by his side, he peacefully drifted away. John was born June 28, 1929, in Cashton, WI, to Michael and Olga (Nichaporuk) Kevek. In 1946, John’s family moved to the Pleasant Prairie where he would spend the rest of his life working the family farm first with his siblings and then with his own family. Known as a stern but fair man, John was well loved by many and known throughout the community. John married the love of his life, Joann Urbanc, on April 20, 1968. Prior to starting their own family, John loved to dance and could be found most Saturday nights in a dance hall. John and Joann were blessed with the arrival of five children whom he treasured as his greatest accomplishments. John was also very proud of his 25 years of service as a voluntary fireman for the town of Pleasant Prairie. He loved to garden, drive his semi loaded with grain to Chicago, and tinker around the farm ready for a conversation with anyone who came along. John is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Joann, and their five children, Joseph, Dan (Kari), Janet, and Andrew, all of Pleasant Prairie, and Anthony of Hackensack, NJ. He is also survived by his sisters, Irene (Roy) Hannig of Sandy, OR, and Mary Buza Jones of Anchorage, AK, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Olga Kevek, his brothers, Raymond and Walter Kevek, his sister, Anna, his sister-in-law, Birdie Kevek, brothers-in-law, Al Buza, Walter Jones, and Paul Bondaruk, his nephew, Michael Kevek, and his great niece, Crystal Elfering. Funeral services will be held at the Proko Funeral Home for John on Monday, July 22, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. This is a great picture of Uncle John--he looks so happy. Just the way I will remember him.
