John L. "Larry" Whitney, 82, of Kenosha passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Brookside Care Center with his loving family at his side.Born June 22, 1930 in Loretta, WI, the son of the late Howard and Ellen (McFarland) Whitney. He was educated in the schools of Loretta and the Rice Lake area before moving to Kenosha in the 1950’s to make his home.He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.On June 2, 1951 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church he married Agnes T. Zieth. She passed away August 15, 2002.John had been a Truck Driver for Food Service Delivery until his retirement.A member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Alpine Club. John enjoyed traveling, golfing, bowling and going to the Casinos.Surviving are a son Bruce Whitney; two daughters, Lynn Strasser and Kris (Jeff Giombetti) Burns all of Kenosha; his five grandchildren; Stephanie (Erik) Flory, Aaron (Fiancee Brittney) Whitney, Nathaniel Whitney; Kaitlyn (Andy Dykiel) Strasser and Bryan Burns. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.He was preceded in death by a son Craig Whitney. three brothers, Howie, Allen, Neil Whitney and a sister, Nancy Miller.Funeral services with Full Military Honors following, will be held on Tuesday, April 9th at 1:00 P.M.at Proko Funeral Home. Entombment at All Saints Mausoleum will be private.
