Eugene J. "Gene" Marrelli, 95, of Pleasant Prairie, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 3, 2012, at his residence. Born in Kenosha on April 11, 1917, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Mary (Greco) Marrelli. He moved to Italy as a child, where he was raised and educated, returning to Kenosha on March 5, 1934, to make his home. He served in the United States Marines during World War II from 1942 until 1945. On May 27, 1939, he married Kathryn Forgianni at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. After almost 69 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on March 15, 2008. For over 20 years Gene was employed by Simmons Co. He then became the owner and operator of Marrelli Home Improvement for 35 years until his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed making furniture for his family and friends. Gene was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, an Usher of the Church, the Italian American Men’s Society, the D.A.V., a former member of the Moose Club and the Swedish Glee Club in Waukegan. He also enjoyed bowling, hunting and taking great pride in raising the "Biggest Tomato’s" in Kenosha. Gene enjoyed playing cards, but not liking to lose. Surviving are his two sons, Frank (Janice) Marrelli of Kenosha and Jimmy (Mina) Marrelli of Burnsville, NC; four sisters, Theresa Metallo, Yolanda (Orlondo) Caracciolo and Ida (Alfonso) Martini, all of Kenosha, and Estrinia Marrelli of Argentina; four brothers, Francesco, Giovanni and Rocky Marrelli, all of Cosenza, Italy, and Alfredo Marrelli of Buenos Aires, Argentina; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Fiornia. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Neil Shepler, Dr. Peter Mariani, Dr. Melinda Knight and his in-home caregivers, Brenda, Angel, Felice, Millie, Connie and Robin. Prayer services will be held on Thursday, August 9th, at Proko Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 1919-54th Street, at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum.
