Eugene George "Gene" Heinisch 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 22nd at Harmony House surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 3, 1919, in Racine, he was the son of the late Michael and Katherine (Mischo) Heinisch. He moved to Kenosha in 1930. Gene served in the United States Army stationed in Alaska, during World War II from June 4, 1942 until October 22, 1945 when he was honorably discharged. On September 8, 1951 he married Marian Dieter at St.Thomas Catholic Church in Kenosha.He was employed as a clerk for the United States Post Office for over 26 years, until his retirement in July 1974.Gene was a member of St. James Catholic Church where he was an Adult Server. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Counsel 973, the American Legion Post #21, the Danish Brotherhood and the Eagle Aerie #1055. He was past secretary of Eagles Good Fellowship Bowling League, the Post Office Credit Union and the local St. Vincent DePaul. He participated in variety of sports throughout his life, which he greatly enjoyed. He is survived by his wife of Kenosha; six children, Mary "Terry" (Michael) Grennier of Lannon,WI, Michael (Gail) Heinisch of Seattle, WA, Barbara Meier of Kenosha, Maureen (Andy) Johnson of Clermont, IA, Dr. Edward (Louanne) Heinisch of Montgomery, IL and John (Kimberly) Heinisch of Kenosha; eight grandchildren, Brian, Grace, Scott, Madeleine, Peter, Camden, Katie and Callan; a sister, Betty Summers of Kenosha; and many nieces and nephews.Gene was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Marian Madsen, Lorraine Heinisch, Jeanette Dieter and Marjorie Schmidt and one brother, Harold Heinisch.The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Harmony House for the wonderful care given to Gene given over the last two years.Prayers will be held at Proko Funeral Home on Saturday, July 28th at 9:30 a.m. Following prayers Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at St. James Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery.
