Kate Marie Johnson

1967 ∼ 2026

Kate Marie Johnson was peacefully escorted home to Heaven Tuesday, January 13, 2026. She grew up in Kenosha, WI, where she worked at the Kenosha Achievement Center, but she spent most of her years in Oconomowoc, WI, at Stepping Stone, a residence for young people with Prader Willie Syndrome. She made many friends there and enjoyed doing crafts, going to the movies, and an occasional trip to Starbucks. Kate was an avid dog lover and enjoyed caring for her dogs, Mitzi and Maggie. She enjoyed vacationing with her sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Alex Legler, Jr., whom she stayed with when visiting. She also looked forward to outings with her sister, Jane Nelson. She loved her nieces and nephews and always looked forward to family gatherings. Kate will be remembered for her dedication to family and friends, and her strong faith, which provided her peace on all life’s pathways. She is survived by her family: sisters, Susan (Johnson) and Alex Legler, Jr., Jane (Johnson) Nelson and Douglas Nelson, Karen (Johnson) Lowther; nieces, Jodi (Nelson) Miller and Andrew Miller, Taylor Nelson, and Susie Lowther; nephews, Ryan Nelson and Wendy Morvac-Nelson, and Brian Lowther; and many great nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts. Kate was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Johnson; father, Eugene Johnson; brother, Jay Johnson; and her grandparents. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Proko Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Monday, January 19, 2026, at New Life Lutheran Church – Somers Campus from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.

I worked with Kate at PWH. She was one of my favorite people to see. We enjoyed dancing together to Elvis whenever we had the chance. She gave the best hugs and will be deeply missed.

She was a sweetheart, always taking in family gatherings with a smile and enjoyed everybody's company, but especially her godchild Taylor, and loved giving Taylor's brother a hard time. You had to experience that to truly appreciate how funny it was. Rest in peace Katie.
