Victor Joseph Gotelaere

1940 ∼ 2026

Victor Joseph Gotelaere, age 85, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, in Stuart, FL. He was born on August 31, 1940, in Superior, WI, to Francis “Wen” and Frances (Jolicoeur) Gotelaere.

Victor served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1957-1965.  He married the love of his life, Patricia Jo Peck on February 24, 1962, in Superior, WI.

In 1963 they moved to Kenosha, WI, where Victor built a life rooted in hard work, dedication, and family.  Truly a hardworking man, Victor lived to serve and provide for those he loved.  He was known for his large personality, quick wit, and incredible sense of humor, which brought laughter and joy to everyone around him.

Victor loved to go hunting in Superior with his family and friends for many years.  He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers fan but would love to tease about being a Cubs fan (if you know, you know!).  He was a member of the Lions Club and happily served with some of his life-long friends.  Victor loved traveling and family vacations.  Wherever he was, there were always smiles left behind.  He was known for being a buffalo, which has to do with his Belgian heritage, but to all who knew him he truly had a buffalo spirit.  He believed the buffalo represented who he was: strong, enduring, and deeply devoted to his family.  Johnny Cash music often filled the room when he was around and as the words of the music showed his love was constant, his presence comforting, and his strength something we will always carry with us.

Victor is survived by his loving wife of almost 64 years, Patricia; his children, Kim (Rick) Mogensen, Kari (Joseph) Nelson, and Kristin (Daniel) Collins; cherished grandchildren, Bryan (Jessica) Mogensen, Kacy (Jake) Puntillo, Lauren (Ricky) Steinke, Brooke (Ben) Chase, Madison Munroe, Michael (Carlee) Munroe, Karlie Nelson, Danny Collins, Aidan Collins, Claire Collins, and Katie Collins; and 14 treasured great-grandchildren.  Victor was also one of fourteen siblings and is survived by his sisters Betty, Becky, Katie, Sally and brothers Dave, Frank, Bob, Don, and Andy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant son Michael Victor; his brothers, Nick, John, Steve, Gerald “Jerry”; and his beloved grandsons, Timothy and Mason.

Victor’s legacy is one of devotion, laughter, and unwavering love for his family.  Victor will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service will be held on February 28, 2026. Visitation will take place  from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. A celebration service with military honors will commence at 12:00 p.m. at Proko Funeral Home.

Vic had such an enormous personality that everyone he met he connected with. We always included him in every event. Trivia was a problem because he shouted out the answers before he was supposed to but that was Vic. He was loved deeply by his friends in Stuart and he will be missed immensely.
