Sally Jean Bernard

Sally J. Bernard, a long-time resident of Kenosha, WI passed away under hospice care at Kenosha Brookside Care Center on December 31, 2025.Sally was born in Park Falls, WI, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Louise (Tank) Bernard. Graduating from Park Falls High School; Sally then went on to pursue her teaching degree through Northland College in Ashland, WI and the Taylor County Teaching School in Medford, WI. Sally received her degree in 1961.Her teaching career started with teaching third grade for two years in Butternut, WI. Then, to show her true steak of independence, she took out a Wisconsin map, closed her eyes and decided wherever her finger landed that was where she was going to go. Kenosha, WI was her new destination. Here she was a teacher for eight years in the Salem School District and finished her teaching career in the Kenosha Unified School District, where she retired in 1996.After retiring Sally started up her Pet Sitting Business. She was a lover of all kinds of animals, and this was her way of “having” them all as she snuggled and loved each one of her client’s fur babies.Sally was Secretary for Land Lord’s Helping Land Lords as well as Secretary for the Kenosha Car Club for several years. She also served as President of Lutheran Aide at Bethany Church.Sally enjoyed reading, going to stage plays in Chicago and Milwaukee, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, watching tennis, and getting people together to play marathon card games (Pinochle, Sequence and Sheepshead, to name a few) complete with drinks and snacks on the table.Sally is survived by her life-long partner, Kenneth Hassler; a niece, Terri (Gary) Schultz of Stratford, WI; nephews, Scot (Ann) Cameron of Ashland, WI, Jeff (Jackie) Cameron of Goddlettsville, TN, Mark (Erin) Cameron of Prior Lake, MN, and Dan Cameron of Rhinelander, WI; also several great nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Louise Bernard of Parks Falls, WI; a sister, Betty Cameron of Ashland, WI; and brother-in-law, Robert Cameron of Ashland, WI.The family wishes to thank the staff at Brookside Care Center for their support and care of Sally during her stay.Funeral services provided at Proko Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park, Somers, WI. Immediately following the burial, lunch will be provided at Jantz Supper Club in Kenosha.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Sally’s memory to Hospice Alliance, 10220 Prairie Ridge Blvd, Pleasant Prairie, WI 53158.
