I had the privilege of getting to know Piotr during the final months of his life while serving as a Hospice Alliance volunteer. When Piotr entered hospice care, he had no known family and little information about his earlier life. While he could not recall much of his past, he was always fully present in the moment and deeply appreciative of each visit and those who cared for him. Piotr’s gentle spirit, humility, and warmth made him a favorite among the nursing home staff. Despite significant health challenges and failing memory, he remained gracious and kind to the very end. He greeted each visitor with his bright smile, welcoming eyes, and a heartfelt invitation to “sit down” and spend a little time with him.Though our time together was brief, Piotr left a lasting impression on my heart. He was a kind, charming, and gentle soul who undoubtedly touched many lives. I feel grateful to have known him.
