Ann L. Matley, 83, of Kenosha, WI, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Hospice Alliance House in Pleasant Prairie, WI following a short in-home care stay at her daughter’s home after a stroke. Born on July 4, 1941, in Wyoming Valley, WI; she was the daughter of the late Donald and Mary (Hess) Fogo. She graduated from Darlington High School. Then traveled by train to California to obtain her CNA certification. On May 4, 1963, she married Paul H. Matley. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1990. Ann was employed by Lafayette County Memorial Hospital and Kenosha Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide. When her children were younger, she volunteered at Jefferson Elementary School helping as lunchroom assistant, Title One reading to special needs children and a PTO member. Ann also volunteered with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Once her children were grown, Ann was employed at Best Western as a hospitality host then at Dairyland Greyhound Dog Track in the Admissions Department until her retirement. Family was her priority. She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren; taking them to the Kenosha museums, lakefront to feed the ducks, local parks, and libraries. On her days off, she would take her grandchildren to the dog track so she could show them off to her co-workers. She also had a big heart for the four-legged fur babies. Her best friend and co-pilot, Tonto, a miniature schnauzer/westie mix was her pride and joy. Ann fostered greyhounds that had retired from the Dairyland Dog Track. She was an active member of the KAFASI for about 20 years making many friendships over the years. She was a former member of the Red Hat Society. Residing in the same home since 1963, she was affectionately referred to as the “Neighborhood Mayor”. One of her proudest accomplishments was restoring her husband’s 1940 Ford to completion with the help of her children, fulfilling the dream her late husband had. Ann is survived by her four adoring children, Patti (Shawn Kalsto) Thorpe of Kenosha, WI, Marty (Lisa) Matley of Las Vegas, NV, Dennis (Carlene) Matley of Kenosha, WI, Cindy (Rich) Sellers of Kenosha, WI; ten grandchildren, Steven, Jeffery and Eric Thorpe, RaeAnne Kalsto, Morgan and Logan Matley, twins – Brittany and Brandon Matley, Brenden and Haley Sellers; nine great grandchildren, and her sister, Rosemary. I worked at the nursing home where Ann‘s mother was, and she would come through the door with little Tonto and he would find me no matter where I was in the building and she’d always have to chase after him. She was a very sweet lady as was her mother, may she rest in peace… And be united with Tonto

Ann was the Super Mom at Jefferson Elementary School when I taught there. She was amazing, helping everyone who needed something. She worked so hard and raised wonderful children and students with husband Paul. We were lucky to have her and her family at our school. She is already helping others in the next world. Thank you Ann Matley for everything you did for our school, students and teachers.
