Beverly Elane Bartel, 86 years old of Kenosha, WI passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024, at her home. She was born December 14, 1937, in Chehalis, WA the daughter of the late James H. and Flora Belle (Hill) Riley. On November 1, 1958, she married Kenneth Bartel in Spokane Valley, WA and he preceded her in death on January 1, 1995. Bev held many jobs in various positions - she worked in retail and as a nurse’s assistant while living in Washington, lunch lady at Somers Elementary School, she had worked at the election polls in Somers since the 1970’s, and retired from LTD Commodities in Chicago in 2009. She also worked alongside her husband at Bartel Drywall, keeping books and administering payroll, as well as spending time with her daughter, Carol’s maple syrup business; throughout her life, however, her most important “job” was being a devoted mother. Bev was a devout member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Pleasant Prairie, WI and active member of their LOGS, Ladies of the Good Shepherd. She also enjoyed gardening and canning in her spare time. Survivors include her daughters, Cindy (Hugh) Hunkeler, Cathy (Troy) Tabbert, and Carol (Tom) Birchell; grandchildren, Dan (Sadie) Hunkeler, Andy Hunkeler, Marie Hunkeler, Michelle Hunkeler, Nicole Tabbert, Ryan Tabbert, Stephanie Birchell, and Melody Birchell; three great-grandchildren, James Hunkeler, Alina Redzepi and Ariella Redzepi; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Bev was preceded in death by siblings, Meredith Anderson, James Riley and Arthur Riley. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4311 104th Street, Pleasant Prairie, WI. Funeral services will commence at 11:00 a.m. Saturday and interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park, Somers, WI. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or the Ladies of Good Shepherd, in her memory. So many wonderful memories of our Bartel gatherings in Minnesota! So many of our parents, aunts and uncles have gone on before us, but we can hold onto the memories of them and be thankful for God’s gifts.
