My son had Ms. Wellman as his second grade teacher at Durkee school. I was helping out one day in the classroom when she came up with this idea😂. All the kids planted one M&M in a Dixie cup. The next day when they came back ,there was a plant sprouting from their M&M seed! She was so much fun and engaged every student back in the day. My son is now 43 , and after all these years I still remember what joy she brought to that classroom.Vicki Milward

So sad to hear of Merry Jo's passing. She was such a joy to work with at Durkee Elementary. We both had recess duty on a Friday and I went into labor with 100 kids on the playground and Merry Jo. I remember her telling me that she would get her hair done on Fridays and they always ask her, "What's new?" She was so happy to be able to say there was almost a baby born on the playground that day. As I ran into her over the past 35 years, she still brings up the story and says she tells it often. She was an excellent teacher. Very helpful to anyone who needed it. Full of energy and just a lot of fun to be around. You will be missed Merry Jo and thank you for the fun times and support in the rough days....and for getting the principal to drive me to the hospital!
