Linda E Elsen

1943 ∼ 2021

Linda Evelyn (Veale) Elsen, 78, of Kenosha passed away Thursday, August 5th, 2021, at Seasons Hospice Ignite Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 1, 1943, to the late Marwood Louis and Edna (Van Wie) Veale in Kenosha. Linda attended Columbus Elementary School, McKinley Junior High School, and she was a proud alumnus of Mary D. Bradford High School (Class of ‘61). She also took numerous classes at Gateway Technical Institute. Linda retired after working 24 years as an Administrative Office Assistant at North Chicago VA Medical Center. She previously worked at Wisconsin Telephone Company, McDonalds, Kenosha Unified, Kenosha Memorial Hospital, and Dr. Fredrick Wood. Her volunteer work included St. George School, Scamps Gymnastics and Abernathy Kennel, and Greyhound Adoption Center at Dairyland Greyhound Park. Linda attended St. Elizabeth, St. George, St. Mary’s, and First Presbyterian churches. Linda enjoyed the simpler things in life; she had a huge heart and would always welcome people and animals into her home. She enjoyed being social, all of her children’s friends were also her friends. Her door always remained open. She adapted and adjusted to life; she lived “old school” by sending birthday cards, thank you notes, and just because notes to simply let you know she cared. She also embraced “new school” practices by participating in social media platforms, commenting and liking posts, texting, and online shopping. She found passion in history, especially tracing her ancestry and proudly embracing her English heritage. She loved to travel; highlight destinations included her visit to the village Clawton in Devon, England with her cousin Gina. She found solace in mother nature; admiring beautiful skies, colorful and fragrant flowers, animals of all kinds, tall trees, the changing seasons, and by having coffee-n-conversation with her closest friends. Linda is survived by her loving children; son, Rick (Paula) Elsen, and daughters, Jodie Elsen and Caroline “Cara” Elsen-Oldenburg; her grandchildren, Jordan, Jared, Jaime, Jenny, Jill, Sydney, Ellie, and Alivia; her great grandchildren, Esther, Maverick, Christopher, Samantha, Sarah, Cooper, Matthew, and Ethan. Also, her kitty Lilly Rose. Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marilyn (Veale) Hautzinger; her brother, Marwood Earl (Bud) Veale; and her granddaughter, Emma Jalin Oldenburg, beloved daughter of Cara Elsen-Oldenburg. Memorial visitation will be held at Proko Funeral Home on Thursday, August 19, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 5:00 pm. Interment will be held privately.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit & Sign Linda’sOnline Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com

Dear Elsen Family. It comes with heavy heart to recently learn of Aunt Linda's passing. She and I would exchange emails from time-to-time, sharing our families news. We would communicate sometimes a couple of times a week and sometimes months in between, continuing with our next family chapter! She was such a pleasure to speak with, never holding back, and with true honesty. I loved hearing her laugh. I could even hear her laughter in some of our emails. She reminded me, always, of when I was a baby, with my big brown eyes looking at her from over the playpen/crib ! I am so very sorry to learn of her passing but will always remember our chats and of course, her beautiful family. I think of her often, and of course the Elsen family. God Bless all of you. I am truly sorry and saddened by your loss. Love, 'Kimmy' (Kuchera) Herman

My condolence to Jodie & the rest of the family - although I never met your mum - I heard much about her from Jodie - during our time in Gaeltacht in Ireland. Linda’s generosity of spirit is truly evident in her daughter as I am sure her legacy lives on in all of her children & grandchildren. May you all treasure that legacy & love which she gave you throughout her life. Tá mé ag smaoineamh ort ag an am seo!Áine Brodie Ireland
