Frank was a gifted mentor for me. Emulating what he taught and modeled was defining for my life successes. I have passed on so many of his teachings and values to my children, grandchildren, friends and business associates. It is devastating to lose one's hero. But through his life examples and consistent coaching support, he lives on and on through others. Thanks for everything Frank!

Rest In Peace Frank. I'll always cherish the many spirited, football - related discussions involving the Matrise family that I was privileged to participate in. No matter how intense, they always ended with everyone shaking hands, hugging, or expressing some other sign of love and respect. The world needs more idea and opinion sharing and less free speech restrictions. Salute Frank! Congratulations on a life well lived.

Wow I am at a loss to say what I feel! Coach was everything you could want in an educator In my years as a wrestler (1961-1964) I just remember his dedication and determination. He pushed us all and made us work to be better than any of us could have dreamed we could be. But perhaps more important was the fact that he taught us to be young men who respected others and understood how important it was to be humble! My sincere condolences to the family of a great man who made me and untold others to be ALL we could bePaul Vanderfin 115 lb champ 1964

A well liked and much respected man whom I held in high esteem. Frank hired me to take over an already well coached wrestling program at St Joes where greatly enjoyed my three years. The program, the school , support and wrestlers and assistant coaches were all outstanding. I still have contact and friendships from those wrestling teams. All that can be contributed to the leadership of an outstanding Athletic Director Frank Matrise Sr.

Frank was a true treasure, loved and respected by all. Every day was Frank's birthday. Whether a WADA Monday night free or a WISAA committee or state workshop, a group of us would go out for an evening meal. We ALWAYS told the waitress it was Frank's birthday and asked for a candled cupcake for Frank. In the four decades I knew Frank, he had multiple birthday cupcakes. The Minnesota Vikings were boarding their buses to leave the Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton while the WADA conference was taking place. Frank also walking out the door wearing his St. Joseph jacket (same colors as the Vikings) was soon escorted to the door of a Viking bus about to head to Lambeau. Just before reaching the bus, Frank said. "No, thanks." We again went out for Frank's birthday.
