Ronald W. Schumacher, 77, of Kenosha, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Kenosha, on August 30, 1943, he was the son of the late Wendell and Elsie (Thorne) Schumacher. A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he was educated in local schools. On November 24, 1962, he married Marie Ciesielski at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He was employed with USPS as a postal clerk for 33 years and retired in 2001. After retirement, he worked for the Kenosha County Parks Department for five years. Ron was an avid gardener, and meticulously manicured his lawn which was beautiful, he loved fishing, and was an avid White Sox, Green Bay Packers, and Wisconsin Badgers fan. The thing that delighted him most, was his grandchildren. Surviving Ron is his loving wife of 58 years, Marie; three children, Kimberly (Phil Lorum) Strangberg, Katherine (Bryan) Knapp, and Michael (Lindsay) Schumacher; seven grandchildren, Nicholas (Courtney), Eric, Ryan, Daniel (Hailey), Alanna, Abigail, and Jackson; a great-grandson, Alexzander; and two sisters, Judy (Joe) Germinaro and Susan (Dennis) Gunderson. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Strangberg; a sister, Sue Lynn Schumacher; and his step-mother, Alice Schumacher. Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 6th, at Proko Funeral Home, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 5:00 p.m. Interment will be private. Paula and I are saddened by Ronny's passing. I remember with great fondness my early days at the Post Office, and especially with the American Postal Workers Union. Ron was a union officer when I began my career, and shortly after taking over the presidency of the Local, I relied upon Ron as a mentor to guide me in our pursuits for our members. Ronny, Danny Weider, and I comprised the union's bargaining committee for the 1975 Local Negotiations. We often felt like we were beating our heads against the wall, but we emerged with a Local Agreement expanded from 3 pages to 12, and we negotiated a "guaranteed" leave program for vacations that proved to be a great member benefit. It was one of the first of it's kind. It guaranteed a percentage of employees vacation time each day almost for the entire year. That program continues today, and has served as a model for other local agreements across the country. Along the way, Ronny was always a valuable sounding board for all issues (postal, union, and personal), and most importantly, Ronny was a good friend to both me and Paula. We will surely miss him!

I was deeply saddened to read of Ron's passing. I worked with Ron in the summer of 2004 as a groundskeeper at the Simmons Field baseball park. Ron was a hard worker, kind and generous with his time, and a man who taught me much. I am grateful for having known him, if even for a short time. Please accept my condolences to his wife, his family, and friends.

To Marie & Family. Helmut and I have so many happy memories of Ronnie. He had that special smile and always a good word to say. As high school kids we did some pretty crazy stuff. We had great times and friendships that have lasted a long time. Your wedding day and later both you and Ron stood up for us on our wedding day. Though time, jobs & families etc have put distance between us the memories are still there and treasured dearly. We send our Deepest Sympathy to you and your Family. Ron is with Our Lord and Savior.
