Betty Edquist, 92, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Froedtert South Pleasant Prairie after a short illness. Born in Chicago, IL, on April 2, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Antonia (Fischer) Davis. While working in Kenosha, Wisconsin she met and married Glenn I. Edquist in 1950 and moved to his farm in Somers, Wisconsin. She lived in Somers for the rest of her life except for a short sojourn to Conroe, Tx. Glenn preceded her in death in 2006. Betty was a long-time employee and Town Clerk for the Town of Somers. Her career in Somers town government started as a special assistant to Glenn, who was Somers tax assessor in the 1960's. She was then hired as deputy Town Clerk, and was appointed Town Clerk when the then incumbent retired in April of 1970. She was elected in her own right in 1971 and was re-elected nine times before she retired in 1987. Much beloved, she received a citation on her retirement from the Wisconsin State Assembly for having ‘served with distinction as the Town clerk of Somers for nineteen years’.She enjoyed painting, family and friends, and traveled extensively both domestically (often in a travel trailer with Glenn) and to Europe. She is survived by her son, Ronald K. Edquist, and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, at Somers Community United Church of Christ, 9918 12th Street Kenosha, WI (the intersection of Hwy E and 100th Ave.). Interment will be at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park on Monday, January 25th at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend. Betty drove all the way to Orfordville to pick me up for Prom in Kenosha! She was a kind hostess during my stay in her home. I will always remember her.
