Amalia Guido, 88, of Kenosha, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020, at Library Terrace. Born in Marano Marchesato, Province of Cosenza, Italy, on November 11, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Eugenio and Rosaria (Ruffolo) DeBartolo. On November 27, 1954, she married Emilio Guido. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1969. He was the love of her life, and she missed him until she joined him again. She worked at Sam Lowe and Co., and at AMC/Chrysler for many years. Amalia was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Church and the UAW. Amalia was an avid gardener and if she wasn’t doing that, you could find her with crochet hooks in hand making everyone blankets and slippers for every occasion. She also enjoyed trips to the casino with her sister. Survivors include her daughter, Lorena (Joseph) Gallo; her sister-in-law, Grazia Guido; and many nieces and nephews, especially Alfonso Morrone, Lisa (Joseph) Cairo, and David (Rina) DeBartolo. She is preceded in death by five siblings, Luigi (Gloria) DeBartolo, Cesira (Gioacchino) Morrone, Gilda (Vincenzo) Ruffolo, Carmela (Luigi) Ruffolo, and her twin brother in infancy, Giuseppe DeBartolo; and five brothers and sisters-in-law, Carolina (Benedetto) Savaglio, Saveria (Giacomo) Ruffolo, Francesco (Lina) Guido, Cesare Guido, and Florinda (Pasquale) Chiapetta. The family would like to thank Library Terrace, Dr. Joshua Bloom, her caregiver MaryAnn Ciappetta, and Hospice Alliance for their compassionate care. Amalia was one of our lawn cut customers for many years. As the years went on we got to know Amalia very well. She was always so kind to us and always sent us off with a bag of snacks or banana bread. She loved to make us laugh and would always brighten our work day. As time went on she became more than just a customer, She became a dear friend of our family. We will never forget her kindness and she will always be remembered in our hearts.

Zia Amalia will be missed dearly. From her infectious laugh to the countless pairs of slippers she made me, she was a one of a kind. The best memories were always when she would come over growing up and reminisce with my Dad about the times spent in Italy. Sharing a photo of the blanket she made for me when I first purchased my condo in Chicago over 12 years ago, and I continue to proudly display it to this day. Love and miss you, Zia.-Johnny Morrone

When I took over Amalias gardens for her, afterwords we would always visit in the kitchen and she would try to feed me. We would visit and she told me a lot of wonderful stories but the funny ones and her wonderful laugh will be remembered and missed. I will miss you my dear friend.” My world will never be the same without you and your famous banana bread.
