Hilde F. Townsend, 80, of Racine, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, comfortably at her home as she wished, surrounded by love. She was born in Neuhaus, Czechoslovakia, on December 6, 1939, to the late Rudolph and Hilda (Pitr) Jelen. She was raised in Germany. At the age of 15, Hilde immigrated to Canada, and shortly after became a naturalized citizen of the United States. She spent most of her adult life in the Chicagoland area. Hilde had been a hair stylist and cosmetologist for over fifty years. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking which she shared with friends and family. Hilde was very proud of her heritage and enjoyed telling the many stories of her life. Most of all, Hilde was proud of her son, especially his military service. She is survived by her son, Anthony (Mary Beth) Townsend; her grandsons, Alex and Aaron Townsend; her brothers, Rudolph (Mary Ann) Jelen, and Jozef Endel; and her niece and caretaker, Aymee Zimmerman. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
