Donald Louis Hoferitza, a chosen son of God, returned home on Thursday, December 26, 2019 for a glorious reunion with his Savior and family. Don was born the son of Joseph Lewis and Laura Elena (Gallo) Hoferitza on November 14, 1937 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He married Judith Rose Whiteside on May 9, 1959 at St. George Catholic Church. They joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in August 1968 and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple in August 1969. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He helped many people as he served in various callings including bishop, bishopric counselor, high counselor, youth leader, seminary teacher and temple worker. He loved family history and instilled in his children a deep love for heritage and family. He received his education at St. George Parochial School and Mary D. Bradford High School. He later received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. He followed that by earning a Master of Science from Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. He also received a Certificate in Administration from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. He received additional training while serving as a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard. Don spent his life teaching in a career spanning 43 years. He taught at Burlington Junior High, Lincoln Junior High, Bullen Junior High, St. Joseph High and finally Mary D. Bradford High School. His love of science was passed on to generations. In many cases he taught the grandchildren of some of his students. He always had time to stop and chat with former students and loved hearing about what they were doing. He loved spending time with his family. Sunday night was "Popcorn Night" at his house. He was always there with a good joke, a pearl of wisdom or a shoulder to lean on. He taught his family service by example, always lending a helping hand to anyone in need and making friends readily. Don is survived by his wife Judy Hoferitza, his sister Judith (David) Petersen, children Mark (Michele) Hoferitza, Jill (Victor) Llanas, Daniel Hoferitza, Christopher (Debbie) Hoferitza and Heather (Tony) HoferitzaPalermo. He has 15 grandchildren - Maria, Dustin, Emily, Taylor, Clara, Rachel, Abigail, Hannah, Halle, Maren, Devin, Parker, Megan, Riley, Ellie and 9 great-grandchildren - Kennedy, Addison, Ryker, Colton, Calem, Zoey, Lucian, Javier, and Harper. Brother Hoferitza was a great example to me. He was my seminary teacher whom I loved and cared for. He thought me to love the scriptures. I loved that he cared for us seminary students so much. Every Friday he had donuts for us. He made all of us sleepy students smile. I always loved saying hello to Brother Hoferitza at church whenever I would see him. He always had a smile. There are no words to explain how amazing of a person Brother Hoferitza was. I will miss him.

Don (and his wife, Judy) were instrumental in helping to bring so much joy into our life in 1971. We were taken in by a wonderful group (including the Hoferitza’s) who taught us the gospel of Jesus Christ in such a manner that gave us a sure foundation. Don & Judy took care of our 1 month old son on the day Mark graduated from Parkside. We moved away to Whitewater, then to Madison, then to Illinois. Then the Chicago temple was built. We took our now 6 children to the open house. I was hoping against hope that we would see Don there. Lo and Behold...he was directing traffic as we drove onto the grounds. I jumped out of the car and shared a sweet hug with him. Even though we had the opportunity to go to the temple while still living in Illinois, we did not see him again...UNTIL...we moved from our home of 20+ years in central Wisconsin to the West Allis ward. Shortly after we moved, we had the opportunity to go to the temple. Again, hope against hope that Don could possibly be there...AND HE WAS. Again a sweet hug. That was the last time we saw him. But he will always be a part of all that the gospel of Jesus Christ means to us. Which of course means “till we meet again “. Love you, Don! Mark and Mary Jurgaitis.

Don was a great friend and Bishop, We remember in one of his science escapades he brought a BIG cow's eye to put in our refrigerator not known by me until I opened the refrigerator and was scared out of my wits. Another time he came over to clean some coho salmon. It was done on the kitchen table and afterwards all the mess was rolled up in newspaper and put in the freezer until garbage day. The next morning Don called to see if he had left his watch at our house, apparently had taken it off and laid in on the table while cleaning the fish. We told him it was in the freezer with all the fish innerds. We told him he was welcome to come over and go through it to recover his watch, he said "no way, forget it"We sure loved him and also adopted his "Sunday night Popcorn". He was our Home Teacher and also Bishop when Barb was Relief Society Pres.and we had a few Ward problems to resolve😁, A wonderful person, love he and Judy, they were so great to us when we were investigating the church.

My condolences to the family, Don was our neighbor. We didn't speak much however, I sure did appreciate the home grown veggies, the offer of pears from his pear tree, watching him converse with our puppy, offering chairs for our daughters 15th birthday in which he asked if it was a Quincenera:), to watching him water the neighbors garage to not catch fire:) (we kindly asked him not to worry about the fence, your safety first) & mostly being inspired to keep up with yard. Well wishes to the family. The Gomez's
