Mary Jean Pitts, 82, of Kenosha, passed away at her home on Wednesday, December 26, 2018. Born on August 7, 1936, in Madison, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Irene (Tarmelli) Trotalli. She graduated from Madison West High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Edgewood College. Mary Jean taught at Madison Public Schools and later Kenosha Unified School District. She loved teaching kindergarten through third grade and spent most of her career at Grewenow Elementary School teaching third grade. On September 3, 1966, she married Robert “Bob” William Pitts in Kenosha. Mary Jean was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and attended both St. Elizabeth and St. James Catholic Churches. She was very involved in the PTA and served as President. She was a proud member of Alpha Delta Kappa. She enjoyed spending time up north at her cabin, swimming, participating in water aerobics at Carthage College and her book club. In her younger years, she enjoyed canoeing, water skiing, tennis and snow skiing. Mary Jean strongly believed that a woman’s primary concern should be her family, her church and school. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her passion. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Bob; two adoring daughters, Jane (Michael) Schires and Susan (Matthew) Coffey, all of Kenosha; five special grandchildren, Luke, Thomas, Claire, Alec and Sarah; and her brother, Robert Trotalli of Brookfield. She is further survived by many beloved family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dolores Disch; and brother, Albert Trotalli. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 2nd, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 1st, New Year’s Day, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Proko Funeral Home and then on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Pitts was my 3rd grade teacher at Grewenow. I will always remember her as one of my favorites; as she was tough but had a soft heart. I met my life-long friends in her class, and we often reflect back on our connection through Mrs. Pitts's class. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
