Jack Barrett Smith

Jack B. Smith, 93, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at Aurora Medical Center Kenosha. Born in Chicago, IL, on October 29, 1924, he was the son of the late John Barrett and Eva (Boudin) Smith. He moved to Kenosha as a young child and was educated in local schools, graduating from Kenosha High School, and also attended the University of Chicago. Jack served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II as a fighter pilot and a B29 flight engineer. On May 5, 1951, he married Joan Proulx at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Kenosha. She preceded him in death on January 12, 2011. After marriage, Jack moved to California and worked in the oil fields while he attended art school. Upon his return to Kenosha, he worked as an art director for an advertising firm in Chicago, the opened his own dental lab out of his home, and eventually retired as an inspector for the State of Wisconsin in 1991. He enjoyed woodworking, photography, and making stained glass. One of the highlights of Jack’s life was the Honor Flight he took in April of 2017 at the young age of 92. Survivors include his five children, Jerry (Debbie) Brucaya of Belleville, WI, Patricia (Kevin) Zimany of Kenosha, Pamela (John) Weyrough of Monona, IA, Suzanne (Roy) Rodriguez of Kenosha, and Allison Smith of Kenosha; a sister, Rosemarie Alkire of Greeley, CO; eight grandchildren, Vanessa, Zia, Ethan, Alyssa, Samantha, Willa, Dayna, and Zack; and one great-grandchild, Carter, with a second due in November. Jack’s family would like to thank Society’s Assets and Brookdale Senior Living-Memory Care Unit for all the kind and compassionate care they gave him. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 18th, at Proko Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
