Janet May (Freitag) Vagnoni, 85, passed away at home on Monday, September 2, 2018. She is survived by her husband, John Vagnoni, her daughter Susan (Vagnoni) Murphy, and her grandsons Alexander and Nicholas Murphy. She was preceded in death by her son John Dean Vagnoni. Janet was born in Kenosha, WI, on January 21, 1933, to the late Herman G. and Martha (Luebke) Freitag. Her siblings in birth order were, Herman John, Otis Reinhold, Ellanora Bertha, LeRoy Harold, Warren Howard, Alice Ethel and Carl. Janet was the last surviving of her brothers and sisters. After her mother’s passing in 1939, her father re-married and she was raised by her step-mother Emma Herzog. Emma brought four children of her own to the marriage, Emma, Gottlieb, Christopher and Frieda. That brings Janet’s family to an impressive total of 15. Janet married John Vagnoni, 87 of Kenosha, on September 29, 1951, and the couple had two children, John Dean and Susan Diane. They have two much-loved grandchildren, Alexander and Nicholas. Janet’s employment history included being a server at the Dutch Maid, a bookkeeper at Simmons Mattress Company; and head housekeeper for Budgetel where she was one of the staff members featured on the cover of their 1987 Annual Report. Her community interests included helping to run the women’s auxiliary for the Kingsmen Drum and Bugle core where her husband John was corps Director. She volunteered time assisting in the wards of Saint Catherine’s Hospital. She also helped her husband John, Co-Manager of the Vintage Auto Group (VAGS) of Kenosha where she spent many hours enjoying the classic cars and the great people who restored them. Janet had many skills she was proud of. She was an experienced seamstress and donated these skills sewing for the nuns of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. She loved making doll clothes for her daughter and even created outfits for dolls which were sold for charity. She was also a gifted cook and an avid reader. She passed along her reading genes to her two children John and Susan. And of course, she was a devoted Green Bay Packers fan.
