Genevieve K. Matera
Genevieve Matera, 93, of Kenosha, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018, at Froedtert South-Kenosha Medical Center Campus. Genevieve was born in Kenosha on December 3, 1924, to the late Dominic and Jennie (Florimo) Gaudio. She was a lifelong resident of Kenosha, educated in local schools. On August 20, 1946, she married Marvin F. Matera at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1998, after 52 years of marriage. Before her marriage she worked at the Frost Co. during World War II and received the Army Navy E Award and was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Genevieve was always very active in golf and belonged to Ives Groves, Muni and Washington Ladies Leagues and several bowling leagues. She also loved dancing, playing cards and bingo. She is survived by two children, John T. Matera of Palm Desert, CA, and Susan Ann Cairo of Blissfield, MI; three grandsons, Donovan (Mindy) Matera, Brian (Jennie) Cairo and Jeremy Matera; five great-grandchildren, Hannah and Keelie Cairo, and Melanie, Talia and Tegan Matera; a brother, Joseph (Joyce) Gaudio of Kenosha; and a sister, Rosemary Brummer of Rapid City, SD. Genevieve was preceded in death by two sons, Marvin D. Matera and one in infancy; five sisters, Louise Greco, Ann DeLuca, Irene Ferella, Mary Russo, and Connie Jaffe; and two brothers, Johnny Gaudio and Louis Gaudio. Genevieve’s family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff of 4 Palmer at Froedtert South-Kenosha Medical Center Campus as well as her home caregivers for all of the kind and compassionate care they gave her.
