Aunt Jo always prepared amazing Italian dishes for my family when we visited. Her smile was there at the door each time. I never felt as comfortable anywhere but her home and my own. As life would have it, the Murphy's and Dalla Santa's spent much time together in the "early" years, and then everyone went their own way, and much too long a period would pass before we saw each other again. Perhaps I should speak for myself only, my life went in many directions... but everywhere I lived and traveled I have taken with me a sense of home and family. Of course, this sense comes from the wonderful upbringing my own parents Bill and Jeni Murphy provided, but it also came from something more expansive, and the Dalla Santas and all my Italian relatives somehow filled my life with that sense of belonging, sense of clan. Aunt Jo will be so greatly missed. I thank her for her warm welcomes, her meals in her tidy home, and I long for the day again when I may hear her say, "Hello, nephew!
