Ralph R. Manka

1925 ∼ 2018

Ralph R. Manka, 92, of Kenosha, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Brookside Care Center. Born on December 19, 1925, in Hale, WI, he was the son of the late John and Frances (Sluga) Manka. He moved to Kenosha in the late 1940s. On November 3, 1951, he married Elaine Fendel. Ralph owned and operated Ralph Manka’s Citgo Service Station on Sheridan Road and 63rd Street from 1959 until 1974. In 1976, he opened Ralph Manka’s Service Station on 14th Avenue and 60th Street until 1984. He retired in the early 1990s. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Ralph enjoyed being a handyman, gardening, canning, cooking and visiting family up north. Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Elaine of Kenosha; two sons, Dave (Sharon) Manka of Kenosha and Rick (Linda) Manka of Franklin, WI; five grandchildren, Michele (Larry) Martin, and Michael (Debbie), Martin, Sam, and Zach Manka; five great-grandchildren, Izabella, Hailey and Ava Manka, and Gianna and Mayli Martin; and a brother, Raymond “Bud” (Mary Potts) Manka. He is further survived by many other special relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Adolph, Lonnie, Edward and John Manka; five sisters, Helen Knudtson, Jean Barca, Martha Insteness, Eleanor Jones, and Gertrude “Gertie” Bodnar; and four great-grandchildren, Ella Blu, Elise Maria, Maya Grace and Larry Martin. The family would like to thank the outstanding staff of Brookside Care Center for their loving care of Ralph. Friends are asked to meet at St. James Catholic Church on Thursday, April 5th, at 10:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum. Ralph was a ‘guardian angel’ in my life. I can’t tell you how many times he rescued me when I had car trouble on the road. I have many fond memories of him. You and he are in my thoughts and prayers.
