Carol L. “Kare” Downing, 81, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Froedtert South-Kenosha Medical Center Campus. Born in Clifton, WI, on October 1, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Robert H. and Eunice (Lunsden) Gorham. She received her Bachelor of Science and moved to Kenosha from Janesville in 1960. On July 29, 1960, she married Donald H. “Dualie” Downing at Federated Church in Kendall, WI. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2017. Carol was employed as an elementary school teacher for a short time in Janesville and then for 34 years with the Kenosha Unified School District. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Woman’s Club, KCREA, National Education Association, Women of the Moose, Kenosha Ramblers Camping Club. She also enjoyed playing bridge and belonged to many bridge groups. She is survived by her son, Scott (Mavis) Downing of Auburn, WA; her five grandchildren, Natasha Brooke (Jose Millan Rubio) Downing, Sierra Monique (David) Mugambira, Tamra Jade Downing, Kaya Ysabella Downing and Christian Scott Downing; and three great-grandchildren, Celestia, Livi and Kaila. She was preceded in death by a son, Todd Allan Downing; and a sister, Lois Joyce Miller. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 17th, at Proko Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
