Richard E. Walters, 81, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Durand, WI, on May 27, 1936, he was the son of the late Russell E. and Clara A. (Baker) Walters. He was a graduate of Durand High School and moved to Kenosha from Edwards, CA, in 1962. Richard served his country first in the U.S. Army for three years serving in Okinawa and the in the U.S. Air Force for five years serving in Alaska and on both the East and West coasts. On November 8, 1957, he married Carol Y. Amidon at West Bennett Valley Lutheran Church in Gilmanton, WI. She preceded him in death on January 16, 2002. Richard was employed as a police officer with the city of Kenosha, retiring as a Sargent after 28 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge #149, the Moose Lodge #285 and held his private pilot’s license. He loved hunting, working outdoors, riding his John Deere, and loved to ride his bicycle these last few years. He also loved country music, traveling, playing cribbage and other card games, and rooting for the Green Bay Packers. Survivors include his son, David R. Walters of Kenosha; two daughters, Dawn M. (Mike) Pasch of Kenosha and Sally Chiyoko (Fumihiro) Umemura of Japan; eight grandchildren, Sean Hathcock, Alyssa Rehm, Logan Walters, Jordyn Walters, Hailey Walters, Takako Umemura, Kousuke Umemura, and Yuuki Umemura; a great-grandchild; and four sisters, Marjorie Raethke, Dolly (Wally) Greven, Susan (Rudy Haag) Stotler, and Charlene (Michael) Goodman. He is further survived by his loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jodi Lynn Walters; a grandson, Kyle David Walters; a brother, James Walters; and a beloved brother-in-law, Howard Raethke. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 4th, at Proko Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Entombment will be private.
