Maureen L. Kueny

1932 ∼ 2018

Maureen L. Kueny, 85, of Kenosha, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Waukesha on April 19, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Edith (Blessinger) Egan. After her mother passed away when she was nine, she cared for her three younger siblings, and sacrificed her career ambitions of becoming a nurse to help her father. Maureen moved to Kenosha in 1951 to attend LPN school. While working at Kenosha Hospital, she met her future husband, Don Kueny. They wed on June 15, 1957, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waukesha. She and Don lived in Milwaukee, Nebraska, and Illinois before they made Kenosha their home, and have lived here for 31 years. She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Maureen was also interested in genealogy and was a member of the Irish Genealogy Society of Wisconsin and the Kenosha County Genealogy Society. She was a volunteer for INS and was a Eucharist Minister. After raising her four sons, Maureen continued on her goal of becoming a nurse, and completed her degree at the age of 50. She retired in 2000. She was an avid traveler, visiting 49 states and 25 foreign countries. Survivors include her husband, Don; her four sons, Daniel (Diane) Kueny of St. Paul, MN, Kevin (Suzanne) Kueny of Grayslake, IL, Neal (Joyce) Kueny of Racine, WI, and Sean Kueny of Royal Oak, MI; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Anne, Alex, Kimberly, and David; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Dorothy Klatt and Janice (John) Petrkes; and a brother, Dennis (Judy) Egan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 21st, at St. Mary Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held the night before at Proko Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Shalom Center or Catholic Charities would be appreciated by the family.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit & Sign Maureen’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
