Fred C. Van Hoof, 79, of Somers, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Froedtert South-St. Catherine’s Medical Center Campus with his loving family by his side. Born on June 17, 1938, in Spring Grove, MO, he was the son of the late Godfred and Mary Ann (Bieber) Van Hoof. He moved to Necedah, WI, as a young child and was educated in local schools. He later moved to Kenosha where he received an associate’s degree as an Automotive Technician. He entered the United States Army in March of 1957 and was honorably discharged on March 18, 1965. On July 23, 1966, he married Lou Ellen Lichter at St. George Catholic Church in Kenosha. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2013. He was employed in the automotive department of JC Penny’s for 20 years before moving to Palmen Motors where he continued to work as an automotive technician until his retirement. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was also an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Wisconsin Badger football. His favorite past time was rebuilding his old Willy’s Jeep. He is survived by his four children, Mary (Todd) Antony, Trish (Mike) Weyker, Rob (Michelle) Van Hoof and John (Becky) Van Hoof, all of Kenosha; twelve grandchildren, Alexander, C.J., Lauren, Cassie, Katie, Samantha, Maya, Jacob, Courtney, Matthew, Ian and Rachel; two brothers, Richard (Christine) Van Hoof and Kenneth (Jane) Van Hoof, both of Necedah, WI; and two sisters, Joanne (James) Higgins of Stevens Point, WI, and Donna Mae (Jim) McKee of Necedah, WI. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Bernard, Robert and Karl; and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Cassandra. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 24th, from the Proko Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery. So sorry for your loss. We knew Fred through his brother, Ken, my brother-in-law. We enjoyed our visits with him, infrequent though they were. Eternal rest grant unto him Oh, lord, and let Perpetual Light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
