Janice L. Kafer
Janice L. Kafer, 78, of Kenosha, passed away at her home on Monday, August 21, 2017. Born on January 20, 1939, in Iowa City, IA, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Inez (Miller) VeDepo. On June 13, 1959, she married Paul R. Kafer in Iowa City. They moved to Kenosha in 1965. He preceded her in death in 1996. Janice was a registered nurse at Kenosha Health Center and was the Director of Nursing at Woodstock Health Center until her retirement in 1999. She was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Church, former president of Christian Women, Human Concerns/Jail Ministry, St. Mark’s Senior Center, and Keep Kenosha Beautiful. She enjoyed painting, playing cards, Lake Michigan, and picnics at Petrifying Springs. Most of all, she treasured spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her five children, Paul Albert (Danielle Miller) Kafer of Castleton, VT, Angela (Joseph) Steinke of Kansas City, MO, Elizabeth (Brian) Hackbarth of Kenosha, Anna (Steven) Sorensen of Highland Park, IL, and David (Jason Hall) Kafer of Chicago, IL; 11 grandchildren, Maria Bastos, Jeremy Kafer, Joelle Gosda, Leah Rae Rusu, Luke, Taylor, and Devon Steinke, Chelsea Ghigeanu, Kenny Hackbarth, and Natalie and Sofia Sorensen; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Judith Diehl of Pensacola, FL, and Jane Ross of Iowa City, IA; and one brother, John VeDepo of Pensacola, FL. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 25th, at Proko Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Prayers will be held from the funeral home on Saturday, August 26th, at 8:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at St. Mark’s Catholic Church at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. David & Jason: So sad to hear of your mothers passing. You are certainly in my thoughts and prayers. Mothers are such a guiding force in our lives and although we miss them they are always with us because of what they have taught us along the way. Memories will keep her alive. Am here if needed.
