F. Barry Kennedy passed away on August 14, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Home in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Barry was born in Cork, Ireland to Robert and Elizabeth Kennedy. He attended school at St. Vincent’s Castleknock College in Dublin and pursued studies in banking. He began his banking career with the Munster & Leinster Bank, Dublin, eventually moving to the Limerick office. He was an avid sportsman and while in Limerick he played with the Garryowen Rugby Football Club. He also regularly enjoyed a cycle out for a round of golf at the Limerick Golf Club in Ballyclough. While in Limerick he met the love of his life, Ita “Jackie” Lane, of Punches Cross, Haydenville, Rosbrien. Following discussions with vacationing American banker Charles Steele who was visiting Limerick, Barry determined to emigrate to the United States to pursue opportunities at the First National Bank of Waukegan, the oldest bank institution in Lake County, Illinois. Barry and Jackie were married in 1957 at St. Anastasia Church in Waukegan. While in Waukegan he helped found the Waukegan Rugby Club. Barry transitioned to a career in insurance, and in 1967 he and Jackie moved to Kenosha, WI and he joined the John Braun Insurance Agency, where he specialized as an agent in both personal and commercial insurance lines. Among his most interesting clients was the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, a national association headquartered in Kenosha. Barry was active in many Kenosha community and business groups and served on committees and boards of numerous organizations, including the Kenosha Youth Foundation. Barry had a lifelong love for tennis and was a long-time member of the Kenosha Towne Club. He relished the pleasures of tasty food, and enjoyed nothing better than a cup of tea with some brown bread, thick butter and a healthy dollop of rough-cut orange marmalade.Barry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jackie, and his children: David (Anne Crawford) Kennedy of Wauwatosa, WI, Leslie (Jamie) Gourlay of Lyme, CT and Melissa (Steve) Walsh of Evanston, IL; his grandchildren: David (Julia) Kennedy of Williams Bay, WI, Caitlin Kennedy of Milwaukee, WI, Carolyn (James) Culea of Cedarburg, WI, Susan Kennedy of East Troy, WI , and Alexandra Gourlay of Lyme, CT; and by his great-grandchildren: Scarlett and George Culea, of Cedarburg, WI and Isla Kennedy of Williams Bay.A memorial mass will be held on Monday August 21, 2017 at 6:30 pm at the Chapel located at St. Joseph’s Home, 9244 29th Avenue, Kenosha, WI.
